ShopRite Eyes Shrewsbury Avenue For New Store

If approved, the proposed ShopRite, operated by the Saker family, could open in 2018.“It’s another indication of the attractiveness of Shrewsbury to retailers,” said Mayor Don Burden, pointing to the numerous standalone, strip malls and shopping centers on Broad Street/Route 35 and Shrewsbury Avenue. “We have the available space that can be reconfigured. We have the traffic, the corridors to the peninsula towns of Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Oceanport, and we have access to the parkway.” Zoning approvals are being sought by owner SBC Holdings/dba ShopRite for site plan approval, building addition, exterior renovations, change in use, and sign installation for Block 31, Lots 1 & 3 and Block 29, Lots 18, zoned for business or light use industrial. The change of use refers to Shoprite’s plans to of fer its signature brand of an enhanced grocery market. ShopRites offer in-store customer pickup of online orders and home delivery, preparation and sale of food on and off premises, the sale of general merchandise such as outdoor furniture, bedding, electronics, the inclusion of a florist, stationery section, tobacco and lottery sales, a pharmacy and ancillary supermarket uses like retail, professional and medical products, such as a Dunkin Donuts, a travel agent, fast food, a nutrition shop or a day spa. They can also include a garden center and parking lot sales. According to the filings, access to the store is proposed via two driveways along Shrewsbury Avenue, and cross access would be provided between the subject site and the Shrewsbury Plaza shopping center to the south. The site plans include parking for 392 cars.The potential supermarket would not have a significant impact on traffic to the area, according to a study by Charles D. Olivo, principal of Stonefield Engineering and Design, who said in the report that a 35,000 square foot supermarket from Shrewsbury Plaza shopping center will not be replaced with a supermarket in the future. The name of the new tenant has not been made public. The site is currently occupied by three commercial/industrial buildings, which are mostly vacant at this time. Acme previously operated in the plaza until it closed last spring, when the retailer closed three stores. A new Acme has opened in a former A&P location in the neighboring Tinton Falls Plaza at 990 Shrewsbury Ave.A public hearing was held at a special meeting on Sept. 28. Former PRRD CAO Chris Cvik hired by Hudsons Hope

first_imgHUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. – Less than two months after he was released without cause from his position as the Peace River Regional District’s Chief Administrative Officer, Chris Cvik is now serving as the District of Hudson’s Hope’s CAO.Cvik was terminated by the Regional District Board without cause during a closed-door meeting in Dawson Creek on May 18th.He was hired by the PRRD in 2014 to replace former CAO Fred Banham, who was retiring that year. As reported by the Alaska Highway News, Hudson’s Hope released its CAO Tom Matus without cause at the end of June.Mayor Gwen Johansson said that hiring Cvik to replace Matus on an interim basis made sense.“It wasn’t terribly complicated. We had a vacancy, and he was available,” said Johansson.She explained that councillors voted in favour of hiring Cvik for a period of one year at a Council meeting on July 9th, though she added that the contract has a clause that allows him to leave with sufficient notice.Johansson said that if Cvik and District Council is happy at the end of the one-year contract, the District would consider keeping Cvik on permanently.last_img read more

File affidavit on powers to regulate expenditure by parties Delhi HC tells

first_imgNew Delhi: The Delhi High Court directed the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday to file an affidavit indicating the powers it has to ensure implementation of its guidelines regarding disclosure of expenditure by political parties. A bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice A J Bhambhani gave a final opportunity to the poll panel to submit the document and said it if fails to do so then the court will proceed to pass orders. The high court also noted that the matter has been pending for the last five years and the direction to EC in February to file the affidavit has not been complied with till date. Also Read – 2019 most peaceful festive season for J&K: Jitendra SinghSenior advocate Arvind Nigam, appearing for the petitioner NGO, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), argued that political parties don’t file income tax but claim exemptions, requiring intervention. The matter is posted for next hearing on July 16. The high court had earlier asked the EC whether it is powerless to take action against political parties which do not comply with its instructions to disclose funding and expenditure details. It said EC has to ensure that its instructions are followed by political parties and had asked, “Do you have no power (to take action) under the existing law?” ADR is seeking implementation of the guidelines as well as the Law Commission’s recommendation that a provision be enacted to monitor and regulate the expenditure by political parties during elections.last_img read more
