first_imgTrainingAll new faculty members receive specific training from WaldenUniversity in the techniques of online teaching; use of anelectronic learning platform; specifics of the policies,procedures, and degree programs of the School or College in whichthey are going to teach; socialization into the Walden Universityculture; assessment of academic integrity of student work(including use of www.turnitin.com); and research supervision oftheses and dissertations. Teaching and mentorship assignments arecontingent upon successful completion of required training. Duringthe first term of teaching, faculty members may be assigned afaculty peer mentor (senior colleague) as an extension of their newinstructor training. Peer mentors will continue to supportinstruction and provide peer reviews of the classroom on a regularbasis.Course Teaching/AvailabilityFaculty members are assigned courses, which are taught using theLearning Management System (LMS), and are responsible forinteracting with students within the LMS. Discussion Boards forclassrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Facultymembers are expected to be in the classroom a minimum of 4 days perweek and responses to student questions must be posted within 48hours. The university suggests regular and predictableavailability, such as online office hours or regular online chats;office hours may be required based on program or collegepolicy.Research MentorshipFaculty mentors may be assigned to work one-on-one with students tohelp students meet the research requirements of their degree.Faculty members are responsible for the provision of timelyfeedback, approval, assessment, and evaluation of each student’swork within the classroom.ResidenciesBSW faculty may be invited to attend Residencies held domesticallyor internationally, where they will teach face-to-face intensivesand colloquia, and facilitate school and university-widediscussions. Contributing (part-time) faculty may be invited toparticipate but are not required to attend.Tools/Technical SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able toperform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listedare representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilityrequired. Incumbents will be evaluated, in part, based onperformance of each essential function. Reasonable accommodationsmay be made to enable individuals with disabilities to performessential functions.Licensing/CertificationFaculty members must be appropriately credentialed, possess anearned degree from an accredited institution or an institution thatis recognized by a country’s ministry of education in thediscipline being taught, and may be expected to be licensed orlicense-eligible in order to teach in specific programs. Facultymembers must maintain their licenses and any appropriatecertifications in order to continue to teach at Walden University.Faculty members are also expected to maintain currency withresearch by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations. Ifparticipating in research, the faculty member may publish andacknowledge Walden University.TravelContributing faculty members may have the opportunity to travel touniversity events and residencies. When traveling to these events,the faculty member will be expected to fully participate in theevent. Faculty members are critical in creating,maintaining, assessing, and reflecting upon a learning environmentwhere academic discipline interweaves with the Barbara SolomonSchool of Social Work and Human Services mission to support studentlearning. Faculty members are expected to adhere to all WaldenUniversity faculty expectations, which are clearly set forth to thefaculty member at the start of his/her employment with theUniversity.What to Expect as a Walden Faculty MemberEssential Duties and Responsibilities• Provide course instruction, course content development, and othercurricular activities as needed Provide residency instruction• Provide academic advising and mentoring• Promote a social work professional identity with students.• Engagement in scholarship• Serve on university and school committees, as well as schoolinitiatives as neededPart-time, Barbara Solomon School of Social Work and Human Servicesfaculty are responsible for instruction, assessment, advising,committee work, and service to the Barbara Solomon School of SocialWork and Human Services. Other duties may include grant management,research, or specific academic endeavors. Technology RequirementsFaculty members are expected to have a personal computer with virusprotection and Internet access.
