Brgy PESOs can curb illegal recruitment

first_imgILOILO – Putting up public employmentservices office (PESOs) in villages could prevent illegal recruitment,according to Francisco Heler, provincial PESO chief. The 20 LGUs have a combined 965villages. The PESO in the villages also servesas a venue to spread information on legal employment opportunities andrecruitment. “If we cannot protect them, it defeatsthe purpose of the PESO which is employment facilitation and employmentprotection,” Heler said. Heler said the provincial PESO isurging LGUs to establish their respective village PESOs to protect job seekersagainst illegal recruiters and help with employment information dissemination. The provincial government-PESO canalso communicate to the village PESOs to relay employment opportunities, likethe JobStart program, and provide free employability enhancement and skillstraining with allowance to qualified applicants. “The huge help of the village PESO isto cascade the information on employment to the village level.They will helpthe municipal PESO cover all the villages in their locality,” Heler said. “The PESO in the village will check ifthe recruiter has the necessary requirements, or has secured the permission ofthe municipal mayor and the municipal PESO officer. If there will be no PESOofficer in the villages, the unlicensed recruitment agencies might not beprevented,” Heler said. So far, 20 of the 43 local government units(LGUs) in this province have established village PESOs. The PESO-Iloilo chief has assured thatseveral local chief executives committed to establishing the village PESOs. (PNA) The village PESO will be the one tocheck the legitimacy of recruitment companies. “They can also help to organizeoverseas Filipino Workers and their families in their respective families. Withthis, we would know what they need in terms of livelihood because we offer areintegration program to returning OFWs,” Heler added. Some of the villages are at risk ofbeing victimized by illegal recruiters since “people in the barangay wantemployment because they want to work abroad for a higher salary.”last_img
