Zimbabwe Annan appeals for calm following controversial elections

“I want to say how anxious I am about the situation in Zimbabwe,” Mr. Annan told a news conference in New York. “The people there showed amazing commitment and patience in the way they turned out and tried to vote, but there is clearly great controversy both within the country and abroad about the way the elections were organized and conducted.”The Secretary-General called on all Zimbabweans “to remain calm, to show respect for each other’s rights and the democratic process, and to disavow all acts of violence or retribution.”
